- Abstract (EN)
- Europe’s position as a competitive production location is increasingly challenged by high energy costs compared to other industrial regions. Simultaneously, the growing share of renewable energy sources presents both challenges due to volatility and opportunities for sustainable and cost-efficient manufacturing. To address these dynamics, this paper proposes a framework for the holistic analysis and improvement of coupled production and energy systems. The framework follows a two-phase approach: first, the initial factory system is modelled and evaluated using key performance indicators; second, the system is iteratively enhanced through the implementation and assessment of action strategies. Based on key performance indicators results, suitable action strategies are selected to improve system performance. The framework is validated through a case study, demonstrating its practical applicability and identifying action strategies that enable the factory to respond effectively to energy price fluctuations and variations in on-site renewable energy supply.
