- Abstract (EN)
- Autonomous vehicles are no longer Action. They are a reality on the streets in many cities around the globe. In recent years, the economics of AV and their impact on transport policy have been intensely discussed. Academia largely agrees that AV will have a profound impact on key aspects of transport policy such as congestion, safety and other factors. This thesis focuses on the implications of two unprecedented features brought about by the AV: Empty vehicle repositioning and the decoupling of the necessity to park (closeby or to park at all) from making a trip by car. Specialcally, these features are addressed in the context of, first, workplace parking, which constitutes a major share of parking supply around the world; second, feasibility and viability of driverless returning to home; and third, cruising as a substitute to parking and associated ineffencies. Far-reaching policy implications are discussed, addressing the need to readjust transport policy in the age of autonomous vehicles.
