- Abstract (DE)
- Abstract (EN)
- In light of the current energy transition, geothermal energy can play a crucial role. It is available year-round and therefore capable of providing base load energy, which makes it particularly attractive for neighborhood-scale projects compared to other renewable energy sources. In addition to the possibility of heat extraction, excess heat can be stored in the ground, allowing buildings to be cooled and the stored energy to be used for heating at a later time. Due to relatively high investment costs and limited available space in building plots, efficient planning of the ground-coupled heat pump system is essential not only to meet ecological requirements but also to remain economically competitive. However, the design of ground source heat pump systems is often based on assumptions that approximate the heating demand of the buildings to be supplied using annual total values. Therefore, it is necessary to implement new methods to adequately predict the thermal use of the subsurface. This work presents a coupled simulation between the thermal processes in the subsurface and their dependencies on the building technology systems on the surface. For this purpose, in addition to Modelica for simulating building systems, open-source software OpenGeoSys is used. In this context, the numerical calculation of heat transport processes in the subsurface is examined and the behavior and results of the simulation are compared and validated against established software. The co-simulation using the developed software interface aims to generate a detailed and high-resolution data basis for the thermal loading of the geological subsurface. Based on the results, it can be concluded that thermal simulations of buildings and technical building services definitely add value to the long-term simulation of heat propagation and development resulting from the operation of ground source heat pump systems. Although a reliable data basis can also be achieved through sequential simulation of building systems, the thermal dynamic processes on the building side can be best represented and simulated through the coupled simulation approach.
